A Crash Course in Object-Oriented UX

An interactive lecture on OOUX

Why it's awesome

This is the lecture that kicks off every OOUX Fundamentals Workshop. It's the primer, the theory, and the methodology broken down. This session can be breezed through in an hour for a lunch-and-learn or an "executive overview." A full-length talk includes interactive exercises, more examples, and a quick break in the middle!

If you are considering an OOUX Workshop but are not yet sold, this lecture would be a perfect place to start. If you end up deciding to invest in the full workshop after the talk, I will adjust the workshop so that your team will not be getting repeated content.

The breakdown

Prepare for an in-depth journey through the object-oriented UX—information architecture for the real world. Together, we will design systems comprised of consistent and recognizable objects that match our user's mental model. By focusing on objects, we will learn new strategies to create elegantly simple and intuitive design systems. We will learn to ask and answer:

  • What are the objects in this world?
  • What is their structure?
  • How do they connect?
  • How do they relate to the user?

By baking these answers into the bones of our information architecture, we’ll gain clarity on our screen design, interaction design, content strategy, and even how the product should be built.

What you'll learn
  • How to avoid 4 massive UX fails
  • How make your digital environment more intuitive by aligning it to the real world
  • How to save time in design and development by cutting out superfluous complexity
  • The fascinating psychology behind why object-oriented experiences help users navigate and function with ease
  • The art of object mapping: identifying objects, structuring their content, connecting objects with relationships, and determining functionality based on objects.

Who will love this talk
  • UX and UI Designers at all levels
  • Developers
  • Product managers
  • Entrepreneurs building digital products
