OOUX Training for your Team

OOUX Fundamentals Workshop

A fast-paced training package to super-power a group of designers

Why it's awesome

Through the magic of Object-Oriented UX, we will learn a repeatable, foolproof process for creating simple, naturally intuitive digital environments.

We will learn to answer the following critical questions:

  • What are the objects in your user's world?
  • What is the structure of those objects?
  • How do they connect?
  • How do they relate to the user?

By baking these answers into the bones of your information architecture, we’ll gain clarity on your screen design, interaction design, content strategy, and even how your product(s) should be built. You'll simplify your pixels and your process.

The Agenda

Introduction to Object-Oriented UX, an Interactive Lecture

🤓 Invite the whole company! Sophia Prater will lead the group through an introduction to OOUX and the ORCA process that will engage your product and design team, your developers, the C-suite, marketing, project management and everyone in-between. This interactive lecture features plenty of exercises, participation, and real-world examples.

  • Explore the cognitive science that backs up OOUX. Why is this even important? And how can you start using it right away?
  • Get a tour of the ORCA process of defining objects, relationships, calls-to-action, and attributes.
  • Quick demos of Object Mapping
  • Learn about the unintuitive objects that can easily creep into your designs without the help of OOUX.

We will have about 10-15 minutes for discussion and questions at the end!

Workshop: ORCA Discovery to Sketching

Up to 40 participants. Bring in a cross-functional group of UXers, Product Owners, Developers.

In this workshop, we will dive into Discovery, OOUX-style. The first round of ORCA helps us begin to transform research/goals into structure. Teams uncover complexity EARLY and come up with more questions than answers—questions that should be tackled by additional research.

  • find and define objects with Noun Foraging
  • map object relationships using a Nested-Object Matrix (the NOM!)
  • brainstorm calls-to-action (funcationality!) by user role with a CTA Matrix
  • Structure objects with attributes using an Object Map — your new favorite diagram
  • Get a whirlwind tour of prioritizing the ORCA-way
  • Using a prioritized Object Map, Practice modular sketching OOUX-style
  • Wrap up with best practices and hot tips on how to easily get your organization started with the magic of OOUX

We will have lots of time for questions and small-group discussion.
